Romuald Wiśniewski

"The artist?s Sculptures Reflect..."

„The artist ’ s sculptures reflect the end of 20 th century Poland : European in a Dutch or Swedish sense but puritanical at the same time . Breakdown and courage . Naivete and modernity . Use of cellular phones and belief in folk medicine.
Most of R. Wiśniewski sculptures are anthropoids by which the artist shows Polish paradoxes : „ The Punk ” , „ The Tip ” , „ The Orator ” , „ The Peeper ” are made of brass and bronze . A sculpture mocking rich people called „The Miser ” is made of Swedish granite . There are also works of art with implied erotic meaning , i.e. „ Taran ” „ Dedal and Ikar ” . There are also works , which do not seem to say much but do in fact sting each of us – without exception . Romuald Wiśniewski not only encloses reality inside precious metals , he literally arrests it . Look at who you are he says . Whom are you laughing at ? At yourself he repeats Gogol ’ s words . From it also comes the exhibition ‘ s title – „ The Signs Of the Times ”.

The artist is a professional which means he lives on what he sells.
Maybe this is why he is not creating big symbolical works of art that could be interpreted in different ways . It seems that R. Wiśniewski is keenly aware of his time and place in the world , what and how much he can do ...”
