
Teresa Wallis-Joniak was bom in a family from the circle of the intelligentsia in Chorzów on 13 October,1926. After having graduated from secondary school in 1947 she was admitted to the Department of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. She studied painting under the guidance of such legendary professors as: Hanna Rudzka -Cybisowa, Czesław Rzepiński and Jerzy Fedkowicz, and graphic art in the studios of Andrzej Jurkiewicz and Ludwik Gardowski.
In 1952 Teresa Wallis completed her studies and mar-ried a painter whom she met at the Academy, Juliusz Joniak. In 1954 she obtained a diplomaat the Department of Painting and the title of Master of Arts (prof.Hanna Rudzka-Cybis was her tutor and professor conferring a de-gree).
Soon afterwards she gave birth to her two daughters, Anna and Marta and became absorbed in motherhood.
Still, she devoted all her spare time to artistic work and the improving of her skills and manner of painting. In 1972 Teresa Wallis-Joniak started to teach art in the Cracow secondary schools a, -1 suoen/ise trainings for students of Pedagogical College in Cracow. She received a prizefor her pedagogical work from the Minister of Education.
She held the function of a scientific secretary of the Art Competitions for a number of years. She was granted prestigious awards for her work with young people, whom she prepared for the competitions, from the Chairman, Prof. Stanisław Lorenz.
Teresa Wallis-Joniak nas been a member of the Union of Polish Artists and Designers (ZPAP) sińce 1955 and the Society of the Friends of Fine Arts (TPSP) in Cracow.
